Robert Gerhard has been defined as “the most unknown of our composers” and, at the same time, “the most important of the current composers” in our country, as Josep Soler stated in 1970. A student of Enrique Granados, Arnold Schoenberg and Felipe Pedrell, his exile seemed to build a kind of wall of oblivion over his work, a wall that begins to break with concerts or biennials like the present one. Therefore, this concert is a great opportunity to discover part of Gerhard's most experimental work: two compositions for electronics and one of the pieces from his Zodiac Cycle, Libra. The concert is completed, as a dialogue, with three works by three Catalan composers, including Ariadna Alsina, L'Auditori's resident artist for this season.
